Guiding Principles
In the mid-1960's, Joseph T. Newton, Jr., the founder of Piggly Wiggly Carolina Company, a grocery wholesaler headquartered in Charleston, SC, saw that being able to print his own advertising for his grocery chain would increase the profitability of the company. He purchased printing equipment from a small, local newspaper called the North Charleston Banner and combined it with the equipment from Piggly Wiggly's sign shop to start a company called Visual Communications staffed by four employees.
In 1969, the name of the company was changed to Tri-State Printing Company. Over the next 22 years, more people were hired and many pieces of modern machinery were added. A larger building became necessary, and in 1991, Tri-State Printing moved to our current location on Rivers Avenue on North Charleston, SC.
Our products include, but are not limited to advertising circulars, direct mail catalogs for national wholesale companies, course schedules for high schools and colleges, and newspapers and brochures for many local businesses.
